This a series of works titled Literacy of The Body.


These paintings are about celebrating women;
Experiences lived by the body,
In the body;
The resilient spirit of our bodies.
It’s about celebrating our changing bodies,
Laying down self destructive criticism and sweeping away the criticism we’ve taken on by society and others about our bodies.
It’s about acceptance -self acceptance.
A hard won acknowledgment of strength, courage and resilience.
 
A layering  technique was used in these paintings. The layering process is lengthy- dozens of layers to build up the oil paint to replicate skin. I lay paint on rapidly in order to capture my  energy through brushwork. The whole is a meditative dance.
